A TCG, or trading card game, is a game where each player builds their own deck from cards purchased in packs (boosters). The cards are both game pieces and collector's items: some are rare, highly sought after, and can be worth a significant amount on the secondary market.
Disney Lorcana was launched in August 2023 in the United States, then in France in autumn 2023. It is now distributed in over 30 countries and is among the fastest-growing TCGs worldwide, alongside Magic the Gathering and the Pokémon TCG.
The world of the Great Illuminary and Glimmers
Lorcana does not feature Disney characters as we know them from their films. The story takes place in the Great Illuminary, a magical library that contains alternate versions of all Disney characters. These versions are called Glimmers.
A Mickey Glimmer can be a sorcerer, an apprentice, or a captain. An Elsa Glimmer can be a Snow Queen or an explorer. This allows dozens of versions of the same character to coexist in the game, and makes the collection infinite.

Unlike Magic or Pokémon, the goal of Lorcana is not to reduce opponent's life points to zero. You win by accumulating 20 lore points by sending your characters on a quest. A more strategic and less aggressive game philosophy, and a radically different way of playing.
What are the card types in Lorcana?
A 60-card Lorcana deck can contain four different card types. Each has a distinct role and a way of interacting with the game.
Character Cards
The heart of each deck. Characters remain in play and can go on a quest (gain lore) or challenge opposing characters. Each has an ink cost, strength, willpower (health points), and lore value. Examples: Sorcerer Mickey, Elsa, Simba, Buzz Lightyear.
Action Cards
Played for their immediate effect, then discarded. They can heal characters, eliminate an opposing card, draw additional cards, or manipulate the game. Examples: "Out of the Shadows", "Circle of Life".
Item Cards
Like characters, they remain in play after being played. They offer passive effects or activatable abilities on demand. Examples: Aladdin's Lamp, Maleficent's Scepter, Merlin's Hat.
Song Cards
A special type of Action card, inspired by great Disney songs. They can be played normally (by paying their ink cost) or for free by "singing" with a character of sufficient cost. Examples: "Be Our Guest", "Let It Go", "Hakuna Matata".

Enchanted cards: the collector's Holy Grail
Enchanted cards are Lorcana's ultimate rarity. They are not distinct cards: each Enchanted card is a super rare alternative version of an already existing card in the chapter, with an entirely different illustration, a special holographic finish, and a redesigned frame.

Each Enchanted card has a specially created illustration, different from the standard version of the same card. Often more cinematic, more dramatic.

An Enchanted card appears approximately 1 time every 4 to 5 displays (96 to 120 boosters). This is not a guarantee per display. Some players open dozens without finding one, while others get lucky with their first display.

How to protect and store your Lorcana cards?
This is the question no one asks, until the day a €150 Enchanted card gets scratched at the bottom of a bag. The good news is that protecting your cards costs almost nothing and takes 5 minutes.
Why protect your cards from day one
A Lorcana card in perfect condition (Near Mint) is worth up to 3 times more than a card with signs of wear (Played or Heavily Played). For a €40 Legendary card, the difference between Near Mint and Played can be €20 to €25. For a €150 Enchanted card, that's €80 to €100 lost in just a few manipulations.
Sleeves: first line of defense
Lorcana cards are standard size (66 x 91 mm). As soon as you open your booster packs, slide each card into a sleeve before handling, sorting, or storing it.
