What is Riftbound, and when is the release date?
If you haven't heard of it yet, it's the League Of Legends collectible card game. It will arrive in France in autumn 2025, initially in English, and potentially in French in 2026. The first images reveal magnificent illustrations, so we're very excited!
How to play?
Even though the official rules haven't been fully revealed yet, we know that the game was designed to be played 2v2 or free-for-all with up to 4 players. But it will also be possible to face off in a duel.
To play Riftbound, you'll need a deck built around a Legend card and a Champion card. These will be the two most important cards in the deck, around which everything else will be built.
Your legend and your champion define your strategy: rapid attack, massive army, or a unique but formidable fighter. You will also have additional units, spells to reinforce your actions, and equipment to boost your team.
Riftbound's resource system will work with a separate deck, composed of 12 rune cards. Each turn, 2 runes will be drawn and revealed from the active player's deck. Their function is quite similar to Magic's land cards and Lorcana's ink reserves.
Each player starts the game with one of their 3 battlefields. But once the game begins, all battlefields are to be conquered.
The goal will be to move your units and your champion to try and take control of the battlefields. Each time you capture one, you gain a point. If you manage to keep it, you gain an additional point each new turn. The first to reach 8 points (or 11 points in team play) wins the game!
But conquering a battlefield won't be easy: if an opponent already controls it, combat ensues! Units use their combat power to deal damage. If your troops are the only ones to survive, you take control of the battlefield.
What products will be available at launch?
Upon release, there will be booster boxes (and thus individual boosters), starter decks designed for quick starts, and the Proving Grounds box set.
Each box will contain 24 boosters, and each booster will contain 14 cards distributed as follows: 7 commons, 3 uncommons, 2 rare or higher rarity foils, 1 foil card of random rarity, 1 token.
There will be 3 starter decks at launch, built around Viktor, Jinx, and Lee Sin.
Finally, the Proving Grounds box set will contain all the necessary materials to play with 2 to 4 players, featuring 4 pre-constructed and balanced decks centered around the Champions Garen, Lux, Annie, and Master Yi.
