How to play 7 Wonders with the Armada expansion?

Game Setup

  • Set up the base 7 Wonders game (board, wonders, age cards) then integrate the expansion elements: Shipyard boards, fleet pawns, naval conflict tokens, Armada cards, and Island cards.
  • Each player receives their Shipyard board, as well with their fleet pawns (red, yellow, blue, green) in their starting positions.
  • Shuffle the new Armada cards and Island cards into the appropriate decks according to the age rules.

Gameplay outline

  • The progression of each age remains that of the base game (card drafting, construction, etc.).
  • Each time a player builds a red, yellow, blue, or green card oradvances a step on their Wonder, they can also perform a "Naval Construction": pay an additional cost to move their fleet of the same color code to their shipyard and activate bonus effects.
  • Island cards allow players to discover islands, triggering unique effects in the game.
  • At the end of each age, after military conflicts are resolved, a naval conflict takes place: the naval strength of each player is compared based on their fleets, islands, and played cards; Naval Victory or Defeat tokens are awarded.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The victory conditions remain those of the base game: total victory points at the end of the 3rd Age (civil, scientific, military, wonder, currency).
  • Naval conflict tokens (victory or defeat) also influence the final score via the planned bonuses/penalties, which can significantly alter the outcome.
  • The player with the highest number of pointswins the game.
  • Prioritize fleets that pay off

Each fleet (red = naval power, yellow = trade/currency, blue = points, green = islands) has a distinct role. Choose the one that matches your strategy and advance it quickly to gain a lasting advantage.

  • Use Island cards as leverage

Discovering islands often has powerful and unexpected effects: if you can activate one early, you can create a disparity that your opponents will struggle to catch up with.

  • Don't neglect naval conflicts

Even if you are focused on classic victory, avoiding naval defeats is paramount: negative tokens can ruin an advantage. Monitor the progress of enemy fleets and thwart them if necessary.
