How to Play the Dinner Table Game!

Game Setup

  • Gather the materials:12 Ingredient cards,6 Vermin/Hungry cardsand the game rules (wallet-sized Micro Game format).
  • Shuffle all cards and place them in a draw pile.
  • Deal each player their starting hand according to the rulebook.
  • Place the draw pile in the center and designate a first player.

Gameplay outline

  • In turn, each player draws a cardand decides whether to add it to their personal stew(trying to achieve a high total of ingredients), or to feed a critterto push it away.
  • The Ingredient cardsadd points to your stew, while the Hungry (critter) cardsrepresent dangers that can decrease this total if not managed.
  • Each decision combines bluffing and deduction: you can try to convince your opponents that your stew is ready to be served, or push them to miscalculate their own totals.
  • Memory also plays a role: remembering which cards have been played or passed helps anticipate the probabilities of the remaining cards in the deck.

Win/Loss Condition

The goal is to be thefirst player to shout "Dinner Time!"when you estimate that your stew has12 or more ingredient points.

  • If your estimate is correct, youimmediately win the game.
  • If you are wrong and the total is insufficient, the turn passes to the next player, who can then try to reach or exceed that total.
  • The showdown is played in acompetitive and interactive spirit, where memory of cards played and your reading of opponents are major assets.
  • Anticipate by observing the cards played

Keep track of the cards that have been played: this gives you a better idea of what remains in the draw pile and helps you decide if shouting "Dinner is served!"is a good strategy.

  • Bluff smart

Don't hesitate to manipulate your opponents' perceptions: feigning a weak hand can lead them to make mistakes, while a well-timed bluff can secure you a win.

  • Assess risks at each turn

Placing a card into your stew always seems tempting, but sometimes feeding a critter can be the best defense to delay opponents and regain the upper hand.
