How to play the game Abyss?
Game Setup
- Take out the equipment: a central board, Ally cards, Lord cards, Location tiles, pearls, Monster and Key tokens, shells and threat track.
- Shuffle the Prospecting cards to form the Ally deck.
- Place the visible Lords within reach for recruitment.
- Arrange the available Locations on the table.
- Choose a starting player: the fight for the throne begins!
Gameplay outline
A game unfolds in a series of rounds where each player performs one of several possible actions, all rich in strategic choices:
- Explore the Depthsto discover new allies and confront monsters: the more risks you take, the more powerful cards you hold.
- Influence the Councilby playing Ally cards to gain advantages or increase your chances of recruitment.
- Recruit Atlantean Lordsby combining your available Allies: these are what earn Influence Points and unlock access to Legendary Locations.
- Control Strategic Locations: these sites directly yield Influence Points (IP)and can swing the game.
Every decision each round not only influences your progress but also the options available to other players, making the game highly interactive and competitive.
Win/Loss Condition
The game ends when a player has recruited enough Lords or when the Lord reserve is exhausted. Players then count their Influence Points (IP)obtained via:
- their Federated Allies,
- their Enlisted Lords,
- controlled Locations,
- and bonuses provided by defeated Monsters.
The player with the most IPis declared King of the Abyss!
