How to play Aeon's End?

Game Setup

  1. Take out the components: Nemesis boards, player boards, Gem, Spell, and Relic cards, life, charge, and power tokens, Breach cards, and player aids.
  2. Each player chooses a Breach Mageand places their personal board in front of them.
  3. Prepare the common purchase card pile (gems, spells, relics) and deal each player their starting hand.
  4. Place the selected Nemesiswith their deck and tracking boards within reach.
  5. Arrange the Breaches(access points for casting spells) in the center of the table according to the rules.

Gameplay outline

A game unfolds in alternating turns between the players and the Nemesis, with each participant having deep tactical choices to make:

  • Player Phase:
You cast spellsprepared in your open breaches to deal damage to the Nemesis or its minions.
You use gems and relicsto generate aether(main resource).
You spend aether to buy new cards(gems, spells, or relics) that improve your deck.
You can open or focus breaches, then prepare new spellsfor future turns.
At the end of your turn, you draw until you have a full hand, never shuffling your deck, which provides great visibility and requires careful planning of your card order.
  • Nemesis Phase:
Nemesis cards are resolved in a random order determined each turn, creating constant and unpredictable pressure.
The Nemesis deals damage, summons minions, or triggers effects that complicate the mages' survival.

Win/Loss Condition

  • Collective Victory: Players win the game by eliminating the Nemesis, reducing its life to zero before the city of Gravehold is destroyed.
  • Defeat: If all players are exhausted or lose all their life, or if the Nemesis' specific rules trigger a defeat condition, the Nemesis wins.

The game offers adjustable difficultythrough Nemesis settings and starting configurations, allowing players to adapt the intensity of the challenge to their experience.

  • Coordinate the mages' powers

Each mage has unique abilities: working in synergy with your teammates is crucial to maximizing spell effectiveness and optimizing your collective defense.

  • Carefully plan your deck management

Since your deck is never shuffled, carefully ordering your cardsis a key strategic mechanic: it allows you to know exactly which cards are coming and when.

  • Control the aether efficiently

Accumulating Aether not only allows you to buy more powerful cards, but also to master actions (open/rotate breaches, prepare spells). A good balance between spending and saving is essential.
