How to play with the Akropolis Athena expansion?

Game Setup

To integrate Athenainto a game of Akropolis:

  1. Set up the base game of Akropolisas usual.
  2. Shuffle the 18 Construction cardsfrom the expansion and place a number of them equal to the number of players next to the playing area.
  3. Shuffle the mini-tiles(Plazas, Districts, Double-Districts) and place several under each visible Construction card.
  4. Separate and place the Athena statues(composed of several pieces) within reach of all players: each player can earn a piece when they complete an objective.

Gameplay outline

The game plays like Akropolis, but with additional objectives to pursue:

  • While you draw and place tilesin your city as usual, you can also try to achieve the specific shapes indicated on the Construction cards(respecting color, orientation, and tile position).
  • When your city has the combination requested by a Construction card, you validateit, which allows you to:
    - take a mini-tileto add to your city (strategic or aesthetic bonus),
    - and collect a part of the Athena statue.
  • Each objective can only be validated once per playerin the same game.

These new tasks add an additional dimension of tactical planning, as you must simultaneously consider the optimal construction of a city and the satisfaction of the precise criteria of each objective.

Win/Loss Condition

The game ends as in Akropolis, once all tiles have been placed or no player can make a legal move. Then:

  • Each player counts their standard victory points(based on placements and resources).
  • If you have successfully assembled the complete Athena statue or several of its pieces, you receive significant bonuses(for example, a multiplication of the value of your stones in the final score).
  • The player with the highest total pointswins the game, crowning their city as the most prestigious.
  • Integrate the objectives from the outset

Don't delay in observing which Construction cards have been drawn: some require precise configurations that are better anticipated early in the game.

  • Coordinate placement and bonus

Mini-tiles won often provide additional benefits: place them to maximize combos with classic tiles.

  • Strategically manage your resources

Some objectives require you to hold onto specific stones or locations: consider each capture to balance city growth and objective completion.
