How to Play Azul: Summer Pavilion

Game Setup

Place the tile displays(factories) in the center according to the number of players.

Shuffle the bag of special colored expansion tilesand distribute them to each factory.

Each player takes their individual garden boardwith the new placement areas specific to the Summer Pavilion.

Gameplay outline

At each turn, players:

  1. Select tiles
As in classic Azul, all tiles of the same color are chosen from either a factory or the center.
  2. Place tiles in their garden
Each tile is placed in an area corresponding to the required row or patternon your board.
Unlike the original, some areas offer immediate or conditional bonus pointsdepending on the configuration of already placed tiles.
  3. Score points as they place tiles
Adjacent or aligned placements provide more points or trigger bonus effects specific to Summer Pavilion.
As in classic Azul, any tile that cannot be placed goes into the penaltyline, decreasing the score.

The game is played over several rounds, with a clear progression towards more complex patterns and increased tactical possibilities.

Win/Loss Condition

The game ends when at least one player completes a horizontal rowon their Pavilion.

Then, proceed with the final scoring:

  • Points for tiles placed according to the Summer Pavilion objectives
  • Bonus for complete areas or specific patterns
  • Penalties for misplaced tiles

The player with the highest total scorewins the game.

  • Prioritize bonus zones

Some areas of the board offer bonus pointsif you complete specific patterns: plan your placements to get there at the right time.

  • Subtly block your opponents

If you see your opponent aiming for a specific color or pattern, take the coveted tiles to force them into less optimal choices.

  • Avoid penalties

Tiles that cannot be placed cost points: always consider your actual ability to integrate them before taking them.
