Betrayal at House on the Hill is an immersive board game combining exploration, cooperation, and betrayal. Players embody explorers who enter a mysterious haunted house, discovering room by room a mansion filled with traps, objects, and strange phenomena.
But beware: during the game, one of the explorers may become a traitor and turn against their allies. Each game tells a different story thanks to the many possible scenarios, guaranteeing a renewed experience every session.

How do you play the game?
Game Setup
Each player chooses an explorer character and places their miniature at the entrance of the house. The board is built gradually: when you discover a new area, you draw a room tile and add it to the mansion. Players also have item, event, and omen cards that will influence their adventure.
Gameplay outline
Initially, all players cooperate to explore the house. As they advance into new rooms, they trigger events, collect items, and sometimes have to perform tests using their characteristics.
At some point, an event called the Haunt is triggered. This moment marks a major turning point: one player often becomes the traitor and receives secret objectives, while the other players must unite to survive or complete their mission.
Win/Loss Condition
After the Haunting begins, two sides emerge:
- The Traitor, who must accomplish an often sinister objective tied to the scenario.
- The Heroes, who try to survive and thwart the Traitor's plans.
The game ends as soon as one side achieves its scenario-based objective.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Quickly explore the house
The more rooms you discover early in the game, the more likely you are to find useful items before the Haunt begins. Quick exploration also provides a better understanding of the mansion's layout.
-
Collect as many items as possible
Items are essential for survival: they often provide combat bonuses or special effects. Try to equip your character before treachery strikes.
-
Stay together after the Haunting
When betrayal begins, heroes must cooperate effectively. Moving together makes it easier to withstand attacks and achieve scenario objectives.
