How to Play CATAN: Explorers & Pirates – 5-6 Player Extension?
Game Setup
- Add the new Land and Sea tiles to the main board.
- Distribute the new figures for the fifth and sixth players.
- Prepare the pirate lairs, ships, and additional resources.
- This expansion requires the CATAN base game, the 5-6 player expansion for the base game, and the classic Explorers & Pirates expansion.
Gameplay outline
- Players develop their colony while exploring uncharted seas with their ships. Sea routes allow the transport of settlers, spices, or fish between different islands.
- Throughout the game, players accomplish several specific scenarios and missions: discovering new territories, trading with villages, protecting sea routes, or battling pirates present on the board. Ships can be moved freely, which provides more mobility and strategic possibilities than in classic CATAN.
- The addition of two extra players intensifies negotiations, resource competition, and clashes over strategic areas. Games become more dynamic and offer more commercial interactions.
Win/Loss Condition
As in other CATAN games, the first player to reach the required number of victory points wins the game. Points are earned through settlements, cities, completed missions, and maritime objectives.
