How to play Château Combo?

Game Setup

  • Each player starts with an empty 3×3 grid.
  • Two open markets are placed in front of everyone:the Castle(upper town) andthe Village(lower town), with three cards revealed in each.
  • The Messenger pawnis placed between the two piles (Castle / Village).
  • The game resources are made available: gold coins, Key tokens, etc.

Gameplay outline

  • On each turn, a player can recruit a characterfrom the cards available on one of the two markets (Castle or Village).
  • To recruit a character, you must pay their cost in gold, and sometimes spend keysto move the Messenger to access certain cards.
  • Once recruited, the character is placed in one of the spaces on your 3×3 grid. Placement is crucial, as the cards interact with each other: some trigger immediate effects, others award points at the end of the game depending on their position, their neighbors, or the resources you have.
  • You repeat this action until you have placed 9 characters(a complete grid).

Win/Loss Condition

  • At the end of the game, each character in your grid provides points according to their conditions(row, column, corners, resources, etc.).
  • We also add points for the keysthat each player possesses.
  • The player with the highest scorewins. In case of a tie, the player with the most unspent gold wins.

    Keys are valuable: they allow you to move the Messenger to access the most interesting characters. Don't spend them lightly: use them strategically.

  • Enjoy the immediate effects

    Some characters trigger effects when recruited (gold gain, keys, placement bonuses). These effects can disrupt your plan — and those of your opponents.
