How to play Dancing Queen?

Game Setup

Setup is extremely fast:

  • The game contains only 9 cards, making it a true microgame.
  • Each player receives one card and secretly chooses how to play it (orientation and role).
  • Objectives remain hidden: each player seeks to impose their own ideal "dance."

This simplicity allows a game to be launched in less than a minute.

Gameplay outline

A round is played by alternating simple but crucial decisions:

  1. Players place their cards face down to create a dancer formation.
  2. On their turn, they can:
    Draw a new card.
    Play it as a lead or supporting dancer.
  3. Some cards allow players to modify the formation, particularly by changing a dancer's "gender" or disrupting opponents' plans.

The goal is to subtly manipulate the composition in play to match your secret objective... while preventing your opponent from achieving theirs.

The game relies heavily on:

  • bluffing
  • anticipation
  • reading your opponent's play

Win/Loss Condition

A round ends when:

  • The cards in play reach a certain limit
  • Or a player triggers an immediate victory condition

The objectives are then revealed, and the player with the best result wins the round. The first player to win multiple rounds (usually 4) wins the game.
