How to play Doxa?

Game Setup

  • Each player receives a board representing their city with its various resources (army, science, wealth, population, etc.).
  • A card river is set up in the center, as well as a starting hand for each player.
  • Markers are placed on the different development tracks.
  • The game can begin immediately with a symmetrical setup.

Gameplay outline

  • Each turn, the player plays two cards: one from the common river and one from their hand.
  • Cards allow players to develop their city, gain resources, or disrupt their opponent.
  • Some cards join your deck, while others trigger immediate effects (revolts, bonuses, sabotage).
  • Players must balance their various resources while monitoring the stability of their city.
  • Tension mounts as victory conditions draw nearer for each player.

Win/Loss Condition

  • There are several possible paths to victory: military, scientific, economic, or civic.
  • It is also possible to win by causing the collapse of the opposing city through revolts.
  • The game ends as soon as a condition is met, making each duel unpredictable.
  • Diversify its development areas

In Doxa, focusing on a single strategy can be risky. It is often better to develop multiple avenues (military, science, economy) to remain flexible and adapt to your opponent's actions. This versatility also allows you to threaten multiple victory conditions.

  • Monitor revolts constantly

The revolt mechanic is central to this duel game. An unstable city can quickly collapse, even if it seems dominant. Keeping an eye on this parameter and controlling it effectively is essential to avoid a sudden defeat.

  • Use cards to disrupt the opponent

Some cards allow you to directly influence the opposing city. When used well, they can slow its progress or prevent it from reaching a victory condition. The timing of these actions is often decisive.
