How to play Draftosaurus?

Game Setup

  • Each player takes a Zoo board (the same side for everyone, ideally the summer side to start)
  • Place the dinosaurs in the bag according to the number of players
  • Each player draws a certain number of dinosaurs and keeps them in hand, face down
  • Designate a first player and give them the placement die

Gameplay outline

  • The game is played in 2 rounds
  • Each round consists of several turns
  • In each turn, the active player rolls the die
  • The die imposes a placement constraint on the other players
  • Each player chooses a dinosaur from their hand
  • Each player places their dinosaur in an enclosure, respecting the rules
  • Remaining dinosaurs are passed to the next player (drafting principle)
  • The player who rolled the die can ignore the constraint
  • Once all dinosaurs are placed, the round ends
  • A second round is then played

Win/Loss Condition

  • The goal is to create the most attractive dinosaur park by optimizing the placement of dinosaurs in the different enclosures.
  • Each enclosure has its own scoring rules: groups, pairs, diversity, or specific combinations.
  • At the end of the game, the player with the most points wins.
  • Optimize placement in each enclosure

Each area has its own scoring rules. Some require identical dinosaurs, others require diversity or specific combinations. Anticipating these constraints from the start allows you to maximize your points in the long run.

  • Anticipate the draft and opponent choices

Pay attention to the dinosaurs you leave for your opponents. Giving them a key piece can offer them a significant advantage. Try to block their strategies while developing your own.

  • Use the die intelligently

The die imposes constraints on other players, but not on you if you roll it. Take advantage of this to place a strategic dinosaur at the opportune moment and gain a decisive advantage.

FAQ – All About Draftosaurus

Is the game suitable for children?

Yes, Draftosaurus is perfectly suited for families. The rules are simple, games are quick, and the dinosaur theme is very appealing. The pictograms make it easy to understand, even for the youngest players.

Is the game strategic despite its simplicity?

Absolutely. Behind the accessible rules lies a true game of strategy. Placement choices, draft management, and anticipating opponents bring surprising depth.

Is chance important?

Chance plays a role through drawing cards and rolling dice, but it is largely offset by player decisions. Good anticipation and a flexible strategy can limit its impact.

How long does a game last?

A game lasts about 15 to 20 minutes, making it an ideal game for playing several rounds or playing with family without time constraints.
