How to play Expressions?

Game Setup

  • Each player receives a hand of cards, which they keep secret.
  • A deck of cards is placed in the center to serve as a reserve and to track progress in the game.
  • A playing area is provided to accommodate cards in "Harmony" and cards in "Discord".
  • The game can begin once all players are ready to cooperate... without communicating freely.

Gameplay outline

  • Players take turns in a defined order.
  • On their turn, a player plays a card to give a clue to their partners.
  • The orientation of the card (vertical, horizontal, etc.) allows for precise information about their hand to be conveyed.
  • The other players analyze this clue to try and guess a corresponding card.
  • If the answer is correct, the card is placed in "Harmony".
  • In case of error, it goes into "Discord", which penalizes the group.
  • The game thus progresses, through interpretation, intuition, and coordination.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The goal is to place as many cards as possible in Harmony through correct deductions.
  • Each error increases Discord and makes the group's progress more difficult.
  • Victory depends on your collective ability to correctly interpret clues and cooperate effectively.
