Faraway is a clever and original card game that invites you to explore a mysterious continent by building your own adventure path. Behind its accessible rules lies a unique mechanic: you must think... backwards. Between drafting, planning, and anticipation, each choice influences your final score. Fast-paced, intelligent, and highly addictive, Faraway appeals to both casual players and strategic thinkers.

How to play Faraway?
Game Setup
- Each player receives a hand of Region cards, which they keep secret.
- A draw pile is formed in the center of the table with the remaining cards.
- Several cards are revealed face up to form a common reserve.
- Each player prepares to build a line of cards representing their exploration.
Gameplay outline
- The game is played over 8 rounds.
- In each round, players simultaneously choose a card from those available.
- Each player places their card in front of them, from left to right, to build their path.
- The remaining cards are passed to other players, creating a drafting mechanism.
- Each card represents a region with scoring conditions to fulfill.
- Over the rounds, players must anticipate future combinations and adapt their strategy.
Win/Loss Condition
- Once all 8 cards have been laid, scoring begins... in reverse.
- Cards are evaluated from right to left, which means you have to plan your entire strategy beforehand.
- Each card scores points only if its conditions are met.
- The player with the most points wins the game.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Anticipate your score from the first round
In Faraway, planning is everything. Since scoring is done in reverse, your first cards must prepare for the last ones. Always think long-term rather than for immediate gain.
-
Build a consistent array
Cards work in synergy. It is essential to create a logic between your cards to maximize your points. A good sequence is often better than an isolated powerful card.
-
Master the draft
Card choices aren't just about your strategy. You can also prevent your opponents from getting key cards. Observing their choices is a real advantage.
FAQ – Everything you need to know about Faraway
What makes Faraway unique?
Its inverse scoring mechanic is the game's great originality. You build your path in one direction, but you score points in the other. This forces you to think differently and makes every decision more strategic.
Is the game beginner-friendly?
Yes, the rules are simple and quick to understand. However, the strategic depth requires a few games to be fully mastered, which makes it interesting in the long run.
What's the best number of players for it?
The game works for 2 to 6 players.
It is particularly interesting with more players, where the draft becomes crucial.
Is chance important?
Luck exists in the cards available, but it is largely compensated by strategy and anticipation. The best players know how to adapt and optimize every situation.
