| 2 to 6 players | 20 min | 8 years and up |
Dive into a colorful atmosphere with Happy Mochi: a fast and clever card game where the goal is to get rid of your cards in pairs, without ever being able to reorganize your hand. From 8 years old, for 2 to 6 players and in about 20 minutes, it's the perfect idea for a fun game with friends or family.

How to play Happy Mochi?
Game Setup
- Shuffle the deck and deal 7 cardsto each player.
- Place two cards face up in the center of the table (the "central duo").
- Place the "Sense" card indicating whether the next pairs should be "higher" or "lower."
- Important: You cannot rearrangethe order of the cards in your hand.
Gameplay outline
- On each turn, a player chooses one of the following two actions:
- Draw a card: then insert it at any position in their hand (the only time you can "move" the order).
- Play a pair: take two adjacent cards from your hand and place them on the central pair, provided that their value is higher or lower than that of the central pair depending on the "Direction" card.
- If the central pair is of the same color, then your pair must be of the same color.
- Exception: if you play two cards of the same value, you trigger a "Happy Mochi": you can then ignore the value and color constraints.
Win/Loss Condition
A round ends as soon as a player no longer has cards in hand. All other players count the values of their remaining cards as points.
The game continues in rounds until a player reaches or exceeds 30 points. The player with the fewest pointsat that time wins the game.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Keep an eye on the order of your cards
Since you cannot reorganize your hand except when drawing, anticipate your possible future pairs and plan your moves.
-
Aim for a "Happy Mochi" at the right time.
Pairs of the same value are strategic wild cards: well-placed, they can turn the game around by eliminating constraints.
-
Use the pickaxe to discreetly manipulate the order
Even if you draw a card, you must insert it somewhere: choose the position to create a viable pair or indirectly block your opponent.
Everything you need to know about Happy Mochi
Is there a lot of luck involved in this game?
Yes, the distribution of cards and drawing introduce an element of chance, but the key is hand management, timing, and anticipation.
Is the game suitable for a small number of players like 2 or 3?
Absolutely: with 2 or 3 players, interaction is more calculated, which can be very enjoyable. Some reviews recommend these configurations.
Is the mochi theme purely decorative, or does it impact gameplay?
The theme is mostly decorative: it provides a cute atmosphere, but the mechanisms are based on pairs, hand order, and value/color constraints.
Can you play multiple rounds without getting tired?
Yes: thanks to the speed of the rounds and the variety of cards and effects, each round remains dynamic and fresh
