Immerse yourself in the thrilling world of 1960s racing with Heat, an intense board game where every decision counts. You play as a driver who must manage their speed, engine, and overheating with cards. This game combines strategy, hand management, and tension: accelerating too quickly can be costly, but slowing down means letting your opponents pass. Ideal for exciting games with 1 to 6 players.

How to play Heat?
Game Setup
- Each player chooses a car and receives their personal dashboard and a gear stick.
- Prepare the card decks: Speed cards, Heat cards, Stress cards, Upgrade cards, Sponsorships, Legends, Events.
- Place the track boards (according to the number of players): Heat offers double-sided boards to vary the tracks.
- If you are playing in advanced or championship mode, also deploy the "Legends" modules (automated drivers), weather, and track conditions.
Gameplay outline
- A race in Heat is played over several rounds. In each round:
- Gear Selection: Players choose their speed by shifting their gear lever. If you skip a gear (e.g., from 1st to 3rd), you must "pay" with Heat cards.
- Card Play: Depending on your gear, you play a certain number of cards from your hand (speed, upgrade, etc.).
- "Reaction" Phase: You can use your "boost" and "cooldown" actions if your position or cards allow, and apply effects according to your cards.
- Movement: You move your race car around the track according to the speed achieved, taking into account turns, slipstreaming behind other cars, etc.
- Cool Down: Heat cards in your hand can be returned to your "engine" (supply) if you have cooldown actions—this allows you to play them again later.
- Draw: Replenish your hand for the next round.
- Events (optional): According to advanced rules, weather or track condition cards can influence the race.
Win/Loss Condition
- The goal is to finish the race in first position on the chosen track.
- In championship mode, the winner is decided over several races based on accumulated points.
- Poor heat management can seize your engine: if you have too many Heat cards and cannot cool them down, you risk not progressing effectively, or even experiencing oversteer (a "spin").
Our Tips for Winning
-
Manage overheating smartly
Don't always take risks by boosting: accumulating too many Heat cards can slow down your hand in the long run. Plan moments to "cool down" effectively.
-
Choose your reports wisely
Aggressive shifting can yield significant speed gains, but at the cost of overheating. Alternate between acceleration and more cautious phases to minimize losses.
-
Enjoy the suction
When an opponent is directly in front of you, use slipstreaming to gain a little speed without adding too much heat. This can be very effective on long straights.
Everything you need to know about Heat
Can you play Heat solo?
Yes, the game offers a "Legends" mode with automated, game-controlled drivers, allowing you to play alone against the game's AI.
Do "Heat" cards go back into the game?
Yes: Heat cards go into your discard pile, then when your deck is shuffled, they return to your hand. You then have to manage them through "cooling" to replay them strategically.
What happens if I "overheat" too much?
If you fail to cool down and accumulate too many Heat cards, your car may not move for a turn. This is a penalty that accurately reflects the physical risk a driver takes.
Are there any expansions for Heat?
Yes: for example, the Heat: Heavy Rain expansion adds new tracks (Japan, Mexico), weather rules, and engine-cooling upgrades.
