How to play Here To Slay?
Game Setup
- Each player chooses a Party Leader(a main hero with a unique class and power).
- Shuffle the main deck(heroes, items, magic, modifiers, challenge cards) and deal each player 5 cards.
- Prepare the Monster deck: shuffle the monster cards and reveal three monsters face-up in the center of the table.
- Give each player a “rule reference” to facilitate consulting possible actions.
Gameplay outline
- In each turn, you have 3 action points to spend: draw cards, play heroes, use powers, or attack a monster.
- If you play a hero, you can activate their power: this often requires a dice roll.
- To attack a monster, you spend 2 action points: you must meet conditions ("party requirements") and succeed in a dice roll to defeat it.
- There are "modifier" cards to influence your dice rolls, and "Challenge" cards: when an opponent plays a hero, item, or magic, you can challenge them with a dice duel.
- You can also "reset" your hand: discard it and draw 5 new cards for 3 action points.
Win/Loss Condition
- You can win in two ways:
- By defeating three different monsters during the game.
- By recruiting a complete "party," meaning one hero from each of the six classes (Fighter, Guardian, Ranger, Thief, Wizard, Bard), alongside your Party Leader.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Build a balanced party
Try to recruit heroes from different classes early on. A diversity of classes makes your party more flexible and brings you closer to a recruitment victory.
-
Use modifiers wisely
Modifier cards can turn a difficult dice roll around: save them for critical moments (monster attack, challenge).
-
Control your hand
If your cards aren't working for you, use your 3 action points to discard and draw again: it's better to restart than to stagnate with a useless hand.
All about Here to Slay
Do all monsters have the same difficulty?
No: monster cards have "roll requirements" (rolls to be made to defeat them), as well as "party requirements" (hero classes needed).
What happens if I lose a "Challenge" duel?
If you lose the dice roll, the card you were trying to challenge is discarded, which can slow down your progress.
Can I customize my Party Leader?
Yes, there is an online tool ("Party Leader Customizer") to create your own party leaders.
Are there any expansions for Here to Slay?
Yes, for example, "Berserker & Necromancer" packs with new heroes, monsters, and mechanics.
