Heroes: Write & Conquer is a 4X roll-and-write game for 2 to 4 players, designed by Tommy Paupe and Clément Gustave, illustrated by Yuri Zhuravlev and Egor Nikolaev, and published by HW Group. The Border between worlds has disappeared, unleashing monsters and factions in a merciless conflict. Each player chooses one of the 6 asymmetric factions available and checks, builds, recruits, and conquers on their personal erasable board to become the master of the Archon realms. A complete conquest and exploration game fitting into a portable box, wonderfully summarized by one player: a 4X game on a restaurant placemat.

How to play Heroes: Write & Conquer?
Game Setup
- Each player chooses one of the 6available factions—each has unique mechanics and abilities—and receives the corresponding dry-erase board and a marker.
- Set up the 27-region common mapin the center of the table, with the Fortress, Artifact, and Monster tokens in their places.
- Distribute the player aids—they answer most in-game questions.
- Designate the first player.
Gameplay outline
- Collecter de l'Or : idem avec l'or.
Win/Loss Condition
At the end of 16 rounds, each player tallies their victory points: structures built, fortresses and artifacts conquered, resources accumulated, and monsters defeated. The player with the highest total wins mastery of the realms.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Master your faction before trying others
The 6 factions have very different mechanics. Play two or three games with the same faction to understand its internal game engine before exploring another. Each faction has an optimal victory style that is not immediately obvious in the first game.
-
Plan the order of your 4 actions by anticipating the fights
The order of actions is not insignificant: if you activate your movement last (number 4), you move the furthest but may have missed a building opportunity. Adapt your sequenceto your intention for the turn — sometimes, a modest early move to reach a fortress before an opponent is better.
-
Invest early in productive buildings
Buildings generate compound resources turn after turn. A player who builds from the very first turns benefits from a cumulative advantage that may seem invisible but becomes decisive at the end of the game. Do not neglect construction in favor of overly rapid territorial expansion.
FAQ – Everything you need to know about Heroes: Write & Conquer
Heroes: Write & Conquer is it a true 4X game or just a roll and write with a theme?
This is one of its great successes: it's a true 4X— explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate — delivered in the streamlined roll-and-write format. The 16 rounds generate real strategic progression with increasing power, confrontations, and multiple objectives. The theme is fully integrated into the mechanics.
Are the 6 factions truly asymmetrical?
Yes, each has its own special rules printed on its erasable board. One excels at resource gathering, another at combat, another at exploration... This asymmetry ensures natural replayabilityplaying two different factions is almost like playing two different games.
Do dry-erase boards hold up in the long run?
Yes. The print quality of the glazed boards is robust and stands up very well to standard dry-erase markers. They survive dozens of games without degrading the legibility of the squares and areas.
Can the game be played in under an hour?
The first few games last more like 75 to 90 minutes while players are learning the mechanics. From the third game onwards, turns flow much more quickly and 60 minutes is entirely achievablewith 2 experienced players.
