Insider Black is a more "hardcore" version of the famous party game Insider. In this edition, themes are more difficult, strategic restrictions are added, and a new role increases the tension: the "follower" alongside the Insider.

All of this adds a dimension of teamwork, hidden influence, and bluffing, ideal for evenings with friends or groups of up to 8 players (or even more by combining it with the classic version).

How to play the Insider Black game?

Game Setup

  1. Deal each player a role card:Game Master, Insider, Citizens, and, if the number allows (from 6 players), a Follower.
  2. Select a theme card from the 42 new theme cards(there is also a blank theme card).
  3. Place the 3-minutehourglass, shorter than in the classic version, to intensify the pace.
  4. Shuffle the restriction cards(5 cards) which prohibit certain categories of questions, according to the "black" rules.

Gameplay outline

  • Players (except the Master) ask questionsto the Game Master to guess the secret word, but some questions may be forbiddendepending on the restriction card in play.
  • The Master answers with yes / no / I don't know, as in the original game.
  • The Insider, who already knows the word, discreetly tries to steer the conversation to lead others to the correct answer, without revealing themselves.
  • If the Follower role is in play, they collaborate with the Insider: they can support their suggestions without necessarily knowing the word themselves.

If you combine this box with the classic Insider version, you can play in teams: each team has a traitor to unmask in the other camp.

Win/Loss Condition

  • Victory for the Citizens (and the Master): the word is guessed andthe Insider (or the opposing team's Insider) is identified during the final vote.
  • Victory for the Insider: if the word is not guessedwithin the allotted time, or if the Insider is not recognizedby the majority.
  • In teammode, each side tries to guess the other's word and unmask the traitor from the other team: speed can give an advantage.
  • Asking strategic questions despite restrictions

When you draw a "forbidden question" card, adapt your questioning: try to circumvent the restriction by subtly rephrasing your questions without revealing your leads. This forces reflection and makes the Insider more vulnerable.

  • Observe the Follower's role

If the Follower is in play, they can provide clues about the Insider. Pay attention to their interventions: their suggestions can be a powerful lever to unmask the traitor, but they can also be a trap.

  • Use time optimally

The 3-minute hourglass imposes a fast pace: plan your questions. Start broad, then quickly narrow it down. Good time management allows you to ask more relevant questions and maximize your chances of finding the word before time runs out.
