Just One is an original and addictive cooperative party game where all players work together to help one participant guess mystery words using unique clues. Simple, friendly, and highly accessible, Just One turns every evening into a moment of laughter and collective thought. Perfect for playing with family or friends, this game highlights communication, creativity, and camaraderie.

How to play Just One?
Game Setup
- Shuffle the word cards and form a face-down draw pile. Each card has 5 words of varying difficulty.
- Each player takes a slate and a marker to write their clues.
- Decide how many words to guess (often a series of 13 for a full game).
Gameplay outline
- At each turn, one player draws a card and discreetly reads a word to be guessed. They do not show it to the others.
- The other players write a single clue-word on their slate to help with the guessing. Be careful: identical words are cancelled and cannot then help the active player.
- After writing their clues, the participants simultaneously reveal their words. If several words are identical, they are removed before the active player can see them.
- The active player can then read all the surviving clues and make one single attempt to answer.
- If the answer is correct, the team scores a point and moves on to the next word. If they are wrong, no points are scored. The deck advances, and the process is repeated until the series of words is complete.
Win/Loss Condition
- At the end of the game (when all chosen words have been guessed or attempted), the team counts the number of correctly guessed words.
- Based on the score obtained, the team receives a collective evaluation:
- 10–13 correct words: Exceptional performance
- 6–9 correct words: Very good score
- 0–5 correct words: Need a bit more cohesion next time
- The goal is to achieve the highest possible score, cooperatively, by using clues relevantly and originally.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Choose clear and varied clues
Avoid overly obvious or similar synonyms, as they may be canceled out before they even help your teammate. Original yet relevant clues increase your chances of success.
-
Think like the active player
Before writing your clue word, put yourself in the shoes of the person who has to guess. What words could help them without creating clear duplicates with those of others?
-
Use the full richness of the vocabulary
Sometimes, a well-chosen adjective or an associative idea (rather than a strictly descriptive term) can unlock the answer more effectively than a literal word.
FAQ – All About Just One
Is Just One a competitive or cooperative game?
Just One is completely cooperative: all players help each other guess the words for the active player, and no individual scoring is counted.
Can you play multiple times with the same word card?
Yes, but to keep the game fresh, it is advisable to regularly shuffle the draw pile to avoid memorizing words that have already been guessed.
Is it possible to play with just two people?
Yes—in this case, each person alternately offers clues to the other, which is still a lot of fun even with two people.
What happens when multiple players write down the same clue?
Identical or very similar words are automatically cancelled before the active player reads them, rendering the clue ineffective.
