How to play Kingdomino?

Game Setup

  • Shuffle the 48 landscape dominoesand form a draw pile face down.
  • Each player takes a castle tile(their starting point) and a king of the corresponding color.
  • Depending on the number of players (2–4), fewer dominoes are prepared (e.g., 24 for a 2-player game) so that each player can build a complete kingdom.

Gameplay outline

  • The game takes place in successive rounds. In each round, a line of dominoes is revealed in ascending numerical order. Each player places their king on a visible domino to choose the selection order for that round.
  • Once all kings are placed, each player, in turn, takes the previously selected domino and places it in their kingdom. This domino must be adjacent to at least one identical terrain or to your starting tile if it's your first placement. Your kingdom must fit within a maximum 5x5 square grid.
  • After placing your domino, you move your king to a domino in the new line to select your draw for the next round.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The game ends when all tiles have been placed or the draw pile is exhausted.
  • Then, calculate victory points: for each connected land area (horizontally or vertically), multiply the number of squares in that area by the number of crowns present in that area. Areas without crowns yield no points.
  • The player with the most victory points in their kingdom wins the game.
  • Aim for large land area combinations

Large areas multiplied by crowns are worth a lot of points. Try to connect crown-rich lands by logically expanding your domains.

  • Plan your future choices

Choosing a lower-value domino now can give you first pick in the next round, which can be crucial for picking up highly-crowned dominoes.

  • Balance variety and consistency

Building a coherent estate is often more profitable than accumulating isolated plots of land, even if they are somewhat valuable.
