Kings Tricktakers is an original and strategic card game that reinvents the trick-taking genre by adding an asymmetrical character drafting mechanic with unique abilities.
Over 3 rounds, each player assembles their team of powerful characters to win tricks, make bets, and score as many points as possible. Accessible to fans of tactical games, this game requires thought and anticipation while offering high replayability.

How to play Kings Tricktakers?
Game Setup
- The game is played with 2 to 5 players and is recommended for ages 14 and up.
- Shuffle the character cards and prepare the draw pile. Each character has a unique ability that will influence your trick-taking and strategies.
- Each player receives 5 cards at the beginning of each round.
Gameplay outline
- Team Formation: Before each round, each player selects their group of characters by drafting from the available cards. Your team is composed of the King, the Queen, the Jack, and 3 other chosen characters.
- Character Organization: In your group, you place 2 characters face up and 1 face down (used as a bid or wager).
- Trick Play: Each round consists of 5 tricks played according to the usual mandatory trick-taking rules. Character abilities and your wagers influence how you try to win each trick.
- Wagering and Scoring: The back of certain characters represents a bid indicating how many tricks you expect to win. After the 5 tricks, you score points based on your wager and the abilities used.
- In the 3rd round, you can sometimes make 1 or 2 bids, and the Jack can be used as an additional wager.
Win/Loss Condition
- After the 3 rounds, each player tallies their points accumulated through successful bets and their characters' abilities.
- The player with the most points at the end of the game is crowned True King.
- No direct elimination takes place: all players participate in the 3 rounds, even if they have little chance of winning during the game.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Choose your team of characters strategically
Each character offers a unique ability — some facilitate taking tricks, others managing your bets. Assemble your team according to your playstyle and the dynamics of the round.
-
Place realistic yet bold bets
Betting on the number of tricks you'll win is often key to scoring. Being too cautious will earn you little, while being too bold risks penalizing you. Find the right balance based on your hand and your abilities.
-
Leverage asymmetric capabilities
Character powers can break standard rules or give you advantages during crucial tricks. Don't underestimate them and combine them intelligently.
