How to play Kites?

Game Setup

  • Place the colored sand timers (usually 5 or 6) in the center of the table, on their sides, with the sand at the bottom.
  • Shuffle the "Kite" cards and deal a hand to each player according to the number of participants (2 to 6).
  • Place the deck of cards in the center, easily accessible to all.

Gameplay outline

  • To begin, the first player turns over the white hourglass to start the game; the sand begins to flow, marking the real-time duration of the game.
  • In turn, each player places a card face up in front of them and flips the hourglass(es) corresponding to the colors indicated on the card.
  • If the displayed card shows two colors, both corresponding hourglasses are flipped.
  • If it shows only one color, you can flip either the hourglass of that color or the white (colorless) hourglass.
  • After playing a card, the player draws a new card.
  • The game continues in this way, with everyone playing their cards quickly to prevent any of the hourglasses from reaching zero (running out), which would cause a kite to fall.

Win/Loss Condition

  • Cooperative Victory: All players must successfully deplete the card deck without letting a single sand timer run out. If the last sand timer is successfully flipped and all cards have been played, the team achieves a collective victory.
  • Defeat: If a single sand timer runs out completely before all cards have been played, the game is lost and your team's kite show fails.
