Kyoto No Koneko: Hide-and-Seek Kittens is a light and competitive micro memory game that puts players in front of a grid of mysterious cards where only shining eyes are visible at the beginning. In this game accessible from 5 years old, your objective is to complete missions consisting of discovering an exact number of hidden kittens in the card square. How do you play the game?

Game Setup

  • Lay out the cards in a 4x4 grid, face up, with only the sparkling eye pairs.
  • Shuffle and place the Mission cards(cat head-shaped) face down.
  • Each player prepares for their turn's mission by using their visual memory.

Gameplay outline

  • In turn, a player reveals a Mission card, which indicates the exact number of kittensto find on the grid.
  • The grid cards show pairs of eyes in the dark. They do not always correspond to an equivalent number of kittens on the back: some kittens close their eyes, two kittens side-by-side may only appear as a single pair of eyes, etc.
  • The player selects and flips the grid cardsto try to reveal the number of kittens required by the Mission by using their memory and observation.
  • After verification, the cards are placed face down again and a new Mission is revealed for the next player.

Win/Loss Condition

  • Victory: The player who successfully completes the most missions at the end of the game wins the game.
  • Defeat: If a player fails to find the correct number of kittens for multiple Missions, they score fewer points and may lose to their opponents.
  • Multiple missions are usually played to accumulate points and determine the overall winner of the game.
