How to play Pay Day?

Game Setup

  1. Set up the board representing a 31-day month.
  2. Distribute one pawn, one savings book, and starting money to each player.
  3. Shuffle the "Mail," "Transactions," and "Loan" cards and place them on the table.
  4. Decide how many months (rounds) to play based on the desired game length.

Gameplay outline

  • On each turn, a player rolls a die and moves their pawn on the board.
  • Depending on the square they land on:
    they draw "Mail" or "Transaction" cards which can make them gain or lose money, generate bills to pay, investment opportunities, etc. they may have the possibility to borrow using "Loan" cards.
  • At the end of the month (i.e., when a player completes a round of the board), they receive theirpayand repay their debts or expenses.
  • Players record their earnings, debts, and savings in their passbook as they go along.

Win/Loss Condition

  • At the end of the game (after the set number of months), players tally up their finances: cash in hand + savings – debts.
  • The richestplayer wins the game.

  • Adopt a prudent approach to expenditure management

    Don't systematically spend everything you earn. Saving is a very powerful lever: keeping money aside will protect you from bad "Mail" cards.

  • Using "Ready" cards wisely

    Borrowing can allow you to seize opportunities (advantageous "Transactions"), but avoid risky loans without a plan. Make sure you can repay without getting into too much debt.

  • Taking Calculated Risks with Transactions

    When you draw a "Transaction" card, weigh the expected gains against the cost: sometimes, investing or making a "deal" can pay off handsomely, but it can also be a trap.
