How to play The Warlock of Firetop Mountain?

Game Setup

  1. Place the Terrain tiles (4x4)in the center of the table to form the modular board.
  2. Arrange the Volcano, hut, cave, and dinosaur hatching area tilesin their designated locations.
  3. Each player takes their chosen color and their Cro-Magnon pawns, along with the associated markers.
  4. Prepare the diceand the Dinosaur cardsready to be recruited.

Gameplay outline

  • In turn, roll the diceto get different icons: volcano, eggs, caves/huts, and feet.
  • The dice results determine the possible actions:
    - Volcano icon: place a Cro-Magnon on a volcano tile.
    - Egg icon: place a pawn in the dinosaur hatching area.
    - Cave or hut icons: place a pawn on the corresponding tile.
    - Foot icon: move a Cro-Magnon one square (crossing water without stopping) to occupy meadow or jungle tiles.
  • When you accumulate enough characters in the hatching area, you can hatch a dinosaurand add it to your reserve. Dinosaurs have special powers(e.g., roll an additional die, occupy water, or fly to other tiles).
  • If you control the majority on a volcano tile, you can push the tilesof a row or column of the board, thus changing the terrain configuration.

Win/Loss Condition

Victory: When all volcano tiles are occupied and the volcano erupts, a score countis performed:

  • Each forest, meadow, or water area is evaluated separately.
  • The player with the most presence (or tied for most)in an area scores points equal to the number of tiles in that area, then retrieves their pawns.
  • Players also score points for their presence on volcanoes.
  • If a player reaches the required point thresholddepending on the number of participants, the game ends and the player with the most points wins.
  • Anticipate your dice rolls

Choose where to place your Cro-Magnons or move your pawns according to the probable dice values: anticipating your actions gives you more tactical options.

  • Master the hatching of dinosaurs

Dinosaurs offer unique abilities: getting those that best suit your strategy—like occupying water spaces or rapid movement—can make all the difference.

  • Use the volcano to your advantage

Controlling volcanoes doesn't just give you points: it also allows you to rearrange the boardby pushing rows or columns, thus disrupting opposing majorities.
