How to play Forbidden Desert?
Game Setup
Place the desert boardin the center of the table and lay out the terrain tiles face-up to form the sand field. Shuffle and place the Treasure cardsnext to the board, then collectively choose your adventurer characters(pilot, engineer, explorer, etc.), each with a unique special ability. Place the heat, storm, and watermarkers and player pawns on their respective tracks to monitor the expedition's status.
Gameplay outline
In each turn, players cooperate by taking up to 4 actions each, such as moving between tiles, excavating sand to reveal new areas, transporting vital water, or using their special abilities to help the team. After player actions, one or more Sandstorm cardsare drawn, which increase the danger level: tiles can become inaccessible, the heat level can rise, and water becomes scarcer. Player coordination to share resources and plan effectively is essential for survival.
Win/Loss Condition
Players win collectively if they manage to recover all four ancient treasures before the expedition is overwhelmed by heat or runs out of water. If the heat level reaches a critical threshold, if all players can no longer move, or if there is not enough water to keep the team alive, the game ends in a collective defeat. Managing time, resources, and risks is therefore crucial for survival in the hostile desert expanses.
