String Game is an original party game that tests your intuition, complicity, and ability to think like others. Connected by a simple string, players must find the same association of ideas without communicating. Accessible, fast-paced, and laugh-out-loud fun, this game creates unique bonding moments among friends or family.
Thanks to its many word combinations and two game modes, each game brings new surprises. Whether you're a fan of party games, word association games, or cooperative challenges, String Game promises dynamic and memorable rounds.
| 3-8 players | ~20 Minutes | Ages 8+ |

How do you play the game?
Game Setup
Place the string in the center of the table and shuffle the cards. Two cards are revealed to present the words that will serve as the basis for the word association. Two players each take one end of the string and look at the displayed words.
Depending on the chosen mode, players compete individually or collaborate to achieve the highest possible score.
Gameplay outline
Both players must mentally find a word or idea that connects the elements on the cards. No communication is allowed.
When a player thinks they have found the correct association, they grab the string. If their partner also believes they have found an answer, they grab the other end. Both players then simultaneously announce their word.
If the answers are identical, the round is won, and a new card is put into play. If they differ, the proposed words become the new elements to connect for another attempt.
Win/Loss Condition
In competitive mode, the first player or team to win five cards wins the game.
In cooperative mode, all participants try to achieve the highest possible score by making as many matches as possible before the end of the game.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Improve your mental synchronization
Victory lies primarily in your ability to anticipate how your partner thinks. Look for the most obvious association for your duo rather than the most original one.
-
Prioritize universal links
References that are too personal may seem relevant to you but may not be understood by other players. Simple, widely known concepts often offer more success.
-
Master the timing of the string
Jumping the gun can lead to poorly thought-out answers. Take a few extra seconds to mentally confirm your choice before committing.
FAQ – All About Cat's Cradle
How is String Theory different from other idea association games?
The string adds an original physical and psychological dimension. Players must not only find an association but also estimate when their partner will have found the same answer.
Is String Game suitable for casual players?
Yes. The rules can be explained in a few minutes, allowing all participants to play immediately, even without prior board game experience.
Can you play with people you don't know?
Absolutely. The game works particularly well as an icebreaker and quickly fosters interaction and camaraderie among participants.
Does co-op mode really change the gameplay experience?
Yes. In cooperative mode, players work together to optimize their score, which strengthens team spirit and implicit communication.
