Accessible from age 10, it's perfect for evenings with friends or family afternoons where strategy, surprises, and twists and turns punctuate each round.

How to play Dwarf King?
Game Setup
- Shuffle the deck of standard cards, special cards, and Objective tiles.
- Each player receives their hand of cards at the start of a round, and an Objective tile is drawn face-up: it will determine the specific victory condition for that round (e.g., collect certain cards, avoid winning others, maximize or minimize values).
- All cards and tiles are placed within reach to facilitate gameplay.
Gameplay outline
- Le Roi des Nains (The Dwarf King) is a trick-taking game: in each round, one player plays a card from their hand, and the others must follow suit if possible.
- The highest card wins the trick, but here the objective is not always to get the most tricks.
- Before each round, a different condition is set by the Objective tile: this could be winning precisely certain types of tricks, avoiding certain cards, or achieving a particular configuration.
- These changing rules make each round a new strategic challenge. Some cards also have special effects that modify the value or impact of the tricks.
Win/Loss Condition
- The game is usually played over seven rounds, each with a different condition.
- At the end of each round, players score points according to the round's objective (success, bonus, or penalty).
- When all rounds have been played, the player with the highest total score wins the game.
- The variety of objectives and special cards makes each game unique and requires constant adaptation of strategies.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Adapt to every goal
The key to success is the ability to change strategy according to the objective of the round: what is good for one round can be catastrophic for the next.
-
Use special cards wisely
Cards with unique effects are not played like standard cards: save them to turn the tide or foil an opponent's plans at a critical moment.
-
Watch your opponent's hands
As in any good trick-taking game, keeping track of what your opponents have already played will help you predict their choices and adjust your own.
