How to play the game Paris Rooftops?
Game Setup
Start by installing the central board and placing the Loot cards face down, along with the Reward tokens within reach of the players. Each participant chooses a Pie character and takes the corresponding card. Also, place the Inspector token on its starting space. The draw pile is ready, and the players are about to climb onto the rooftops.
Gameplay outline
A game of Les Toits de Paristakes place in successive turns, where each player alternates between two phases:
- Robbery Phase – Push Your Luck: The active player draws a Loot card and places it on the board in the leftmost slot. They can choose to continue drawing (and risk attracting the inspector) or stop and move to the next phase.
- Sharing Phase: Depending on when they stopped, the active player can take between 1 and 4 Loot cards. If cards remain on the board, the other players will take one each in turn. But beware: some cards are under surveillance!
During the Robbery Phase, each "alarm" card advances the commissioner. If the detective catches the thief in the act, the turn ends immediately and the active player receives no reward for that turn.
Win/Loss Condition
The game usually ends after all players have played a certain number of rounds or when the draw pile is empty. Each player then totals their Reward tokens based on their collections of stolen items (the more complete a collection, the more prestige it earns). The player with the most prestige points wins and becomes the boldest Magpie in Paris
Our Tips for Winning
-
Master the stop-and-go
The key to victory often lies in your ability to decide when to stop drawing: too early, you lose out on potential gains; too late, the detective freezes you and you leave empty-handed.
-
Build consistent collections
Try to focus on a few complementary loot types. Collecting multiple items from the same category significantly increases your prestige score.
-
Forcing others to take unwanted cards
If you leave Loot cards on the board during your sharing phase, your opponents will have to take one: strategically position cards that are likely to harm them or slow down their collections.
