Discover Ticket to Ride: Northern Lights, a new and immersive version of the famous railway network building game. Embark on an adventure through Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, where every railway and sea route brings you closer to victory.
In this strategic family game, you collect Wagon cards to claim routes, complete personal objectives, and try to optimize your railway empire in a landscape inspired by Nordic scenery. Easy to learn but rich in decisions, this new installment in the Ticket to Ride series promises captivating and accessible games for everyone.

How to play the game?
Game Setup
Place the game board representing the Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland) in the center of the table. Each player chooses a color and receives the corresponding train cars as well as a scoring marker. Shuffle the Train Car cards, Destination cards, and Bonus Objective cards. Deal a certain number of Train Car and Destination cards to each player according to the rules. Then arrange the visible Train Car cards for drawing during the game.
Gameplay outline
In turn, each player performs only one action from three possibilities:
- Draw Train Cards: Draw two Train Cards from the face-up cards or the deck.
- Take New Destination Tickets: Add new objectives that you will try to connect on the board.
- Claim a Route: Discard the appropriate Train Cards to place your trains on a railway or sea route between two cities on the board.
Throughout the game, players claim connections on the map, building their network while sometimes disrupting opponents' plans. This version also introduces bonus common objectives that can earn additional points at the end of the game.
Win/Loss Condition
The game ends when a player places their last cars or a certain score threshold is reached on the score track. At this point, each player calculates their points based on:
- Routes built (longer connections are worth more),
- Completed Destination Tickets,
- Achieved common bonus objectives.
The player with the highest total score wins.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Prioritize high-value goals
Choose Destination Tickets that offer high points and can be connected with routes that you can reasonably build over several turns.
-
Fully leverage shipping lanes
In this northern territory, certain connections require the use of sea routes: plan your Wagon cards carefully so you don't get stuck.
-
Control key areas of the North
Certain cities and central connections are highly sought after. Securing them early can limit your opponents' options while offering you significant point gains.
FAQ – All you need to know about Ticket to Ride: Northern Lights
Are the rules easy to learn?

Do bonus objectives change every game?
Yes! Bonus objectives are randomly selected at the start of the game, ensuring a wide variety of challenges and high replayability.
What's the best strategy for a balanced game?
Combining long road building, the completion of personal goals, and attention to common bonuses: this combination maximizes your chances of success.
Do maritime links really change the way you play?
Absolutely. Sea routes require more precise management of map colors and force players to anticipate more. They add a tactical constraint that greatly renews the experience compared to more continental maps.
