How to play Ligretto?

Game Setup

Each player receives a deck of cards of the same color.

  • 10 cards are placed face up in front of the player to form the Ligretto pile.
  • Several cards are placed face up next to it to form the row.
  • The remaining cards form a personal draw pile, held in hand.

All cards are numbered and color-coded, allowing for quick recognition during the game.

Gameplay outline

As soon as the game begins, all players play simultaneously. The goal is to place cards in the center of the table to form ascending sequences by color, always starting with the number 1.

Players can play cards from their row, their hand, or their Ligretto pile as soon as an opportunity arises. Speed is essential: the slightest hesitation can allow an opponent to play instead of you. When no more cards can be played, players replenish their hand to unlock new possibilities.

Win/Loss Condition

A round ends as soon as a player manages to completely empty their Ligretto stack. Points are then counted according to the cards played and those remaining in the personal stack. The game is usually played in several rounds, and the player with the most points wins the game.
