How to play Limit?

Game Setup

  1. Each player chooses or receives a nationand takes the corresponding board and player aids.
  2. Place the Market board, prepare the cards(232 cards), the resource tokens: money, pollution, destabilization, fossil resources, cubes, etc.
  3. Shuffle the political, social, and crisis cards according to the rules, and prepare the alliances(economic and military tokens).

Gameplay outline

  1. Political Phase: players play pairs of political cards, imposing choices such as improving living standards, building factories, promoting policies, declaring hostilities, etc.
  2. Social Phase: your nation reacts: the population consumes resources, pays taxes, produces goods, and can even revolt if decisions are poorly received.
  3. International Phase: global crises can occur (ecological, financial, military), and nations can negotiate alliances using their economic or military tokens.

Win/Loss Condition

  • If 4 global criseshave been triggered, the game can end before the 7th generation.
  • At the end of the game, the resilienceof each nation is tested: certain steps of the social phase (food, consumption, production) are replayed without triggering new crises to simulate future generations.
  • Points are then calculated according to several criteria:
  1. Gross National Happiness: sum of the living standards of social classes 1, 3 and 5.
  2. Financial Power: the value of the currency depends on the number of crises (crises are subtracted from the number 5), multiplied by the money in possession.
  3. Territory: each territory token earns points.
  4. Military Power: points are obtained for military resources held (e.g., 1 point per 3 resources).
  5. Historical Impact: penalties for pollution and destabilization (each token of these types costs points).

The player with the highest score wins: they have successfully led their nation to prosperity, while maintaining a balance in the face of crises.

  • Balancing growth and sustainability

Don't rush to maximize your output or wealth. Growth that is too rapid without resource management (pollution, destabilization) can cost you dearly in international crises.

  • Anticipating Crises

Keep a close eye on the conditions triggering global crises (ecological, financial, military). Prepare strategic reserves (fossil fuels, money, alliances) to cushion the effects.

  • Using alliances intelligently

Economic and military tokens are valuable: forging alliances can save you during a crisis or allow you to take advantage of turbulent times. Don't be too isolationist, but don't rely too heavily on others either.
