How to play Luthier?

Game Setup

Each player receives a personal board representing their luthier workshopas well as a set of workers and resources. The central board groups several action locations such as the guild, the market, the showrooms or the musical demonstration areas.

At the beginning of each round, players also place instruments on their workbenchand receive support from patrons, whose patience must be carefully managed.

Gameplay outline

A round takes place in several phases where players plan their actions using worker placement. Tokens are placed face down on the various locations on the board or in their personal workshop.

The game's Besonderheit comes from its hybrid system: the workers have different values, which creates a kind of secret auction to gain priority on certain actions. During resolution, tokens are revealed and actions are executed according to their strength or their placement order.

These actions allow you to:

  • manufacture or repair instruments
  • acquire resources such as wood, metal or rare materials
  • recruit apprentices and improve your workshop
  • organize concerts and demonstrations
  • attract new prestigious patrons

Throughout the game, players develop their workshop and their reputation while optimizing their resources and actions.

Win/Loss Condition

The game takes place over six rounds. At the end of the game, players tally their prestige points, earned by crafting instruments, satisfying their patrons, and performing various prestigious actions.

The player with the most prestigebecomes the most renowned luthier of their time and wins the game.

  • Choosing the right worker for each action

In Luthier, the value of your workers is paramount. Save your most powerful tokens to secure the most important actions.

  • Monitor patrons' patience

Patrons provide valuable benefits, but their patience diminishes over rounds. Plan your instrument deliveries to retain their support.

  • Optimize your workshop engine

Developing your workshop and training apprentices may seem expensive at first, but it creates a powerful economic engine for the rest of the game.
