Enter the intriguing world of Mascarade, a card game combining bluff, memory, and social strategy where appearances are often deceiving. In this revisited and modern edition by Repos Production, players take turns embodying characters with changing powers, all while trying to thwart opposing plans and amass as many gold coins as possible.

How to play Mascarade?

Game Setup

Shuffle the Mask cards and deal one face down in front of each player.
Choose one player to be the token keeper and place the bank within everyone’s reach.
Ensure that every participant knows the powers of the different masks (presented in the booklet).

Gameplay outline

In turn, each player can performone of the three following actions:

  1. Look at their Mask card– to find out which character they truly embody.
  2. Swap their card with another player's card– or shuffle the cards and redistribute them, always face down.
  3. Announce a Mask– by declaring which character they believe they have in front of them to use their power. Be careful: others cancontestif they think it's a lie!

The exchanges and manipulations of cards quickly blur identities, making each turnfull of suspense and bluff.

Win/Loss Condition

The first player to collect 13 Gold Pieces using the powers of the Masques wins the game.
If no one reaches this score but a player goes bankrupt, the game also ends and the wealthiest player wins.
Thanks to the various scenarios and 17 different Masques, each game of Mascarade offers a renewed experience.

  • Memorize the identity of the Masks in play

    Although the cards frequently change places, keeping a mental track of the latest actions can make it easier to guess who holds which power.

  • Bluff with confidence and consistency

    When you claim to be a specific Mask, act credibly: a well-executed bluff can earn you coins, but can also cost you dearly if you are unmasked.

  • Play with the uncertainty of other players

    Encourage exchanges and confusion – this can disorient your opponents and give you the advantage if you can anticipate movements better than others.
