How to play Medical Mystery New York?
Game Setup
- Distribute the materials: open the "Patient", "Tutorial", "Codex / Knowledge / Rules", etc. folders.
- Read the tutorial case (patient 1) together to learn the game mechanics stress-free.
- Each player receives materials: medical records, admission interviews, "research data" cards on pathologies, possible tests, specialists, etc.
Determine game length: the game plays in approximately 60 minutesfor 1 to 4 players.
Gameplay outline
- Symptom review: players read admission interviews and the patient's electronic medical record to collect clues.IELLO
- Diagnosis: as a team, they use "disease research" cards to formulate hypotheses, by analyzing symptoms and medical history.
- Tests and consultation: to refine the diagnosis, players can initiate tests, call on specialists, and interact with the codex, depending on the time in the game.
- Treatment: once the diagnosis is made, the correct treatment must be chosen and applied. Each action affects the patient's condition and the remaining time.
- Outcome: depending on your choices, the patient may or may not survive the "night" (end of the game). The decisions made and their effectiveness are evaluated via the codex.
Win/Loss Condition
- Victory: Save the patient before time runs out, by correctly identifying the disease and applying the right treatment.
- Defeat: If the diagnoses are incorrect, or if the chosen actions do not stabilize the patient before the "night shift" ends, you fail to save them.
- The game offers four cases of varying difficulty, which affects the complexity of the diagnosis and the required rigor.
