How to play Monopoly Deal?

Game Setup

  • Shuffle the 110 cards(properties, rent, money, actions) and deal 5 cardsto each player.
  • Place the draw pile face down in the center of the table.
  • Give each player a "cheat sheet" to help them keep track during the game.
  • The youngest player starts, then play proceeds clockwise.

Gameplay outline

  • On your turn, draw 2 cards(or 5if your hand is empty).
  • You can play up to 3 cardsduring your turn:Money Cards: they go into your "bank" to build up your funds.Property Cards: place them in front of you, by color, to form sets.Action Cards: use them to collect rent, swap cards, steal properties, or demand money ("birthday," etc.).House/Hotel Cards: place them on complete sets to increase rent value."Just Say No" Cards: they can cancel certain opposing actions (theft, rent, etc.).
  • If you have more than 7 cards in handat the end of your turn, you must discard the excess.
  • To pay an opponent (rent, trade, debt), you can use your Money cards in your bank, and also properties if necessary.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The object of the game: be the first playerto collect 3 complete sets of propertiesof different colors.
  • A “complete set” corresponds to all the cards of the same color, according to the rules of the game.

Our Tips for Winning

  • Collecting rent on time


    When using a "Rent" card, wait until you have complete sets or "House/Hotel" cards to maximize the amount you can claim.

  • Fly smart


    "Steal / Trade" cards are powerful: target almost complete sets from your opponents to block their win, but keep a "Just Say No" ready in defense.

  • Managing your "bank" with care


    Don't bank all your Silver cards too quickly: keep some in hand if you anticipate urgent expenses or exchanges.
