Mysterium is an immersive cooperative game that blends investigation, image interpretation, and silent communication in an atmosphere inspired by great mystery stories. One player takes on the role of the ghost of a former inhabitant unable to speak, while the others become mediums tasked with uncovering the truth. Through enigmatic visions represented by magnificent illustrated cards, players must collaborate to identify the culprit, the location, and the circumstances of the drama. Between intuition, exchanges, and collective interpretation, each game becomes an experience as captivating as it is original.

How to play Mysterium?
Game Setup
- One player takes on the role of the ghost while all others play as psychics. The board is set up with several cards representing characters, locations, and objects related to the mystery to be solved.
- The ghost secretly receives the complete solution to the investigation and prepares the Vision cards that will be used to provide clues throughout the game.
- Psychics set up their individual equipment before the revelations begin.
Gameplay outline
- The game takes place over several rounds representing the different nights of the investigation.
- In each turn, the ghost silently chooses Vision cards to help each medium identify a specific element of their personal investigation. The cards contain no text: only illustrations rich in colors, symbols, and details.
- The mediums then observe the images, exchange their interpretations, and try to understand the message sent.
- Once a player believes they have found the right lead, they confirm their choice and move on to the next step. When all mediums have identified their suspect, location, and object, the group moves on to the final reveal.
- In this final phase, the ghost attempts to collectively guide the players towards the true winning combination.
- Success depends as much on the quality of the visions as on the group's ability to share their intuitions.
Win/Loss Condition
- The players win the game if they collectively discover the correct final combination before the number of available turns runs out.
- If time runs out before the mystery is solved or if the group identifies the wrong final solution, the ghost remains trapped and the investigation fails.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Look for emotions before details
Vision Boards often work best when interpreted as a general mood rather than a literal illustration.
-
Build a common language with the ghost
As you play through the rounds, try to understand how the ghost chooses its clues instead of starting from scratch each time.
-
Listen to the assumptions of other mediums
Even if a clue doesn't directly concern you, discussions often lead to a better understanding of the overall logic.
FAQ – Everything You Need to Know About Mysterium
Why is Mysterium considered a great cooperative game?
The game encourages players to collaboratively build interpretations rather than individually solve a problem.
Does the ghost talk during the game?
No, all ghost communication is done solely through Vision cards.
Do you need to be good at investigating to win?
Not necessarily. Observation, imagination, and discussion are often more important than pure logic.
Are vision boards still used in the same way?
No, the same card can evoke totally different ideas depending on the group and the context of the game.
