SLY – a bluffing game from the Nanogame series

In SLY, players must protect their Hens while sending their Foxes to attack their opponents' Hens. This card game combines strategy, bluffing, and memory.

On your turn, you can choose from three actions:

  • Lay: Place a face-down card (Hen or Fox) on an empty space around a Henhouse.

  • Expose: Flip over an opponent's face-down card and score points if it's a Fox.

  • Reveal: Flip over several cards around a Henhouse to resolve their effects: the Fox eats the highest value Hen, the one just below is saved, and the other cards return to their owners.

The game ends as soon as a player has only one card left or all spaces have been revealed. Points are then counted according to saved Hens (based on their position), devoured Hens (value, negative if it's one of yours), and captured Foxes (value according to the number of players). The player with the most points wins the game.

How to play the Sly Nanogame?

Game Setup

Each player receives a hand of cards consisting of chickens and foxes. The board is built around several coops where cards will be placed face down.

Gameplay outline

On your turn, choose one of three possible actions:

  • Play: Place a card face down around a chicken coop.
  • Expose: Reveal an opponent's card to try and find a fox and score points.
  • Reveal: Flip over multiple cards around a chicken coop to trigger interactions.

During revelations:

  • Foxes eat the most vulnerable chickens.
  • Some chickens can be saved depending on their position.
  • Remaining cards return to players' hands.

Each action requires anticipation, bluffing, and reading the opponent's play.

Win/Loss Condition

The game ends when:

  • a player has only one card left in hand,
  • or all locations are revealed.

Points are awarded based on:

  • protected chickens,
  • captured chickens (be careful, yours can penalize you),
  • exposed foxes.

The player with the most points wins the game.

  • Mastering the art of bluffing

Never reveal your intentions too early. Alternate between attacks and defensive placements to sow doubt in your opponents.

  • Strategically protecting your chickens

Position your chickens to limit enemy attacks during reveals.

  • Use foxes at the right time

A well-placed fox can turn a situation around. Wait for the ideal moment to maximize its impact.
