Enter the soothing universe of Niwashi, a cooperative game for two players where you must build a magnificent Japanese garden together. Here, classic communication is forbidden: you will have to understand each other through your actions, your placements, and some subtle clues. Between reflection, observation, and complicity, each game becomes a real strategic challenge. Original, elegant, and accessible, Niwashi offers an immersive experience ideal for two players.

How to play Niwashi?
Game Setup
Players arrange the Garden tiles, Objective tiles, and the Lantern pawn. Each player receives secret objectives to complete during the game. The common garden starts empty and will gradually grow turn after turn.
Gameplay outline
In turn, players place a Garden tile made up of different plots representing seasons or sand. Tiles must be placed according to overlay and connection rules. Since talking is forbidden, players use their placements or the Lantern pawn to subtly guide their partner towards certain shapes to create. Success relies on your ability to read each other's intentions.
Win/Loss Condition
The game ends when no more tiles can be placed or when a player runs out of tiles. Players then count the number of objectives accomplished. The more effective your coordination, the better your final score.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Observe your partner's playing style
Each player develops a placement strategy. Quickly identifying their habits will help you better interpret their intentions.
-
Use the lantern with precision
The Lantern pawn is valuable. Place it clearly to avoid confusion regarding important areas of the garden.
-
Building a flexible garden
Don't block off certain areas of the board too early. Keeping free space allows you to adapt to future objectives.
