In Punto, the rule is simple: align four cards of your color in a row, column, or diagonally. But behind this apparent simplicity lies true strategic depth.
Each turn, you must carefully choose where to place your card: place it next to another, or stack it on top of a card of lower value. This ingenious mechanism not only allows you to advance towards your own goal but also to block your opponents' progress.
Be careful, however: the grid can never exceed 6 x 6 squares, which makes each placement even more crucial.

How to play Punto?
Game Setup
- Each player receives the cards of one color.
- The number of colors used depends on the number of participants, allowing for 2 to 4 players. The cards are then shuffled to form each player's personal draw pile. The play area is empty at the start and will gradually build up as the game progresses.
Gameplay outline
- In turn, a player reveals the top card of their draw pile.
- This card must be placed either on an empty space adjacent to an already present card, or directly on top of a card of lower value, regardless of its color. It is impossible to cover a card of equal or higher value.
- As the board develops, tactical possibilities multiply. Should you expand the playing field, reinforce an existing line, or prevent an opponent from completing their alignment? Cards placed on top of other cards constantly change the situation, forcing everyone to adapt their strategy until the final turn.
Win/Loss Condition
- The round ends as soon as a player manages to align four visible cards of their color, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
- Depending on the chosen variant, the game can be played in a single round or multiple rounds to determine the final winner.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Control the center
Developing your game in the center of the board gives you more alignment possibilities.
-
Keep your cards close to your chest
High-value cards can cover many opponent's cards. Using them too early can cost you an excellent opportunity later in the round.
-
Monitor multiple directions
Always try to create multiple threats simultaneously to complicate your opponents' defense.
