How to Play "Aye, Dark Overlord!"?
Game Setup
- One player takes on the role of the Dark Lord while the others embody his faithful but somewhat incompetent goblins.
- The Excuse and Action cards are shuffled and then dealt to the minions. The Dark Lord also prepares his tokens of reproach, which will be used to sanction answers deemed insufficient.
- The game can begin: it's time to explain why the mission failed.
Gameplay outline
- The Dark Lord begins the interrogation by holding the players accountable.
- In turn, the minions must invent a credible... or totally absurd excuse, using the cards available in their hand to fuel their story.
- The goal is definitely not to take responsibility for your mistakes but to blame another player before suspicion falls on you.
- The cards allow you to add improbable events, interruptions, or transfer responsibility to a neighbor.
- The Dark Lord listens, arbitrates, and distributes reproaches according to the quality of the justifications.
- The atmosphere relies entirely on imagination, the pace of exchanges, and the ability to construct increasingly extravagant stories.
Win/Loss Condition
- A minion receives a Blame Token when they fail to convince the Dark Lord or are left without an answer.
- The first player to accumulate too many Blame Tokens officially becomes responsible for the fiasco… and loses the game.
- All other players survive to tell their version of events.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Speak quickly before someone accuses you
In Yes, Dark Lord, hesitation often amounts to an admission of guilt.
-
Build a consistent apology
Even the most absurd stories work best when they follow a logic.
-
Engage other players
Subtly blaming someone else often creates new opportunities for survival.
