How do you play Paon?
Game Setup
Each player receives their starting Island cards. Bird and Island cards are dealt to form the initial hands. A drafting phase then allows each player to select the cards they wish to keep before passing the others to their opponents.
Gameplay outline
- A game of Paon takes place over three seasons. In each round, players develop their islands to produce different food resources such as plants, fish, or meat. They then attract birds by meeting their specific needs and group them into flocks.
- Island cards can be upgraded to provide more resources and accommodate birds more efficiently. Each species has its own characteristics and can generate bonuses when placed in the right conditions or associated with other birds.
- At the end of each season, players tally their points and then modify their habitats. The islands then change configuration, which directly influences the resources available for the next season and forces the birds to adapt to their new environment.
Win/Loss Condition
After the third season, players add up all the points earned during the game. The participant with the most feathers wins and becomes the best manager of the archipelago.
