Pickomino is a derivative of Yam, in which you try to win as many dominoes as possible.

On your turn, roll the dice, then keep all the dice of a single value of your choice. Then, choose whether or not to re-roll the unkept dice, to try to set aside a new value and increase your chances of winning the best dominoes.

But be careful, if the dice roll only shows values already set aside, your turn ends, and you lose a domino! A fun family game to take anywhere.

How to play Pickomino?

Game Setup

  • The sixteen Pickomino tiles, numbered from 21 to 36, are placed in the center of the table to form the "grill."
  • Each player has eight special dice, the sixth face of which is replaced by a worm, essential for collecting a tile. The game can then begin.

Gameplay outline

  • In turn, a player rolls the eight dice.
  • After each roll, they choose a value and set aside allthe corresponding dice. In subsequent rolls, this value can no longer be chosen. Players must therefore constantly decide between securing points or attempting better combinations.
  • At any time, the player can end their turn if they have at least one Worm symbol among the kept dice. They then add up the value of their dice (the Worm is worth 5 points) to retrieve a tile from the grid that exactly matches their score or, if it is no longer available, the next lowest tile.
  • Another possibility: if this score exactly matches the visible tile at the top of an opponent's stack, they can steal it directly. This constant interaction encourages players to take more risks to secure their best tiles.
  • However, if a player can no longer select a new value or has no Worms, their turn is lost. They must then return their last tile to the grid and permanently flip over the highest value tile still available, which gradually brings the game closer to its end.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The game ends when there are no more tiles available on the grill.
  • Each player then adds up the number of worms on the tiles they have collected. The player with the most worms wins the game. In case of a tie, the highest value tile breaks the tie.
  • Don't be too greedy

A few guaranteed points are often better than an overambitious attempt that could cost you everything.

  • Always keep an eye on your opponents' tiles

Stealing a tile earns you points while directly weakening an opponent.

  • Retrieve a quickly a Glass

Waiting too long to secure a Ver symbol greatly increases the risk of losing your entire turn.

FAQ – All about Pickomino

Why is Pickomino so popular?

Because it successfully blends risk-taking, calculation, and player interaction with rules that can be explained in just a few minutes.

Are the Ver symbols mandatory?

Yes. Without at least one Worm among the kept dice, it is impossible to collect a tile, regardless of your score.

Is the game purely based on chance?

No. The rolls remain random, but the decisions to continue or stop and the choice of values to keep strongly influence the outcome.

Why choose Pickomino?

Because it's one of the best family dice games, capable of creating as much suspense as laughter in about twenty minutes.
