Develop your planet to save humanity!

Develop an unknown planet using polyominoes. Each turn, place a development tile on your planet. The tiles feature two of the six terrains that represent the infrastructure needed to support life on the planet. Increase your resource tracks to complete as many rows and columns as possible on your planet to score victory points.

How to play Planet Unknown?

Game Setup

  • Each player chooses a planet and a corporation, which determine their special powers and strategic objectives.
  • The rotating space station is placed in the center of the table and filled with polyomino tiles representing the various infrastructures. Each player also sets up their personal board, development tracks, rover, and the common objectives for the game.

Gameplay outline

  • In each round, all players play simultaneously.
  • The first player rotates the space station to choose the available tiles. Each participant then selects one of the two tiles in front of them before placing it on their planet.
  • Each tile has two different types of terrain. When placed, it advances the two corresponding development tracks: energy, water, biomass, technology, industry, or exploration. These advancements gradually unlock new bonuses, improve your abilities, or allow you to gain more victory points.
  • Some tiles also add meteorites to your planet. You will then have to move your rover to remove them, otherwise they will penalize your final score.
  • Throughout the game, you will also have to complete rows and columns on your planet, rescue survival capsules, fulfill common objectives, and make the most of the unique powers of your planet and corporation. The challenge lies in simultaneously optimizing your spatial puzzle and your different progression tracks.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The game ends when all players have fully developed their planet.
  • Points are then calculated based on development tracks, objectives achieved, completed rows and columns, recovered escape pods, and removed meteorites.
  • The player with the most points wins the game. In case of a tie, the player with the fewest empty spaces and then the fewest remaining meteorites wins.
  • Don't focus on just one track

    The different resources are very complementary and often unlock bonus chains.

  • Think about your puzzle from the very first moves

    Empty spaces become very difficult to fill at the end of the game.

  • Quickly use your rover

    Removing meteorites improves your score while making it easier to complete your rows and columns.
