How to play Potion Express?

Game Setup

Gameplay outline

  • In turn, a player places their magic wand in front of a row or column of three cards.
  • They immediately collect all cards showing awake bats, which reveal different ingredients on their back: pumpkins, mushrooms, earthworms, and other essential components for potion making.
  • The three cards in the row or column are then flipped over: the awake bats fall asleep while the sleeping bats wake up. This permanent alternation forces players to memorize the position of the cards to anticipate their next turns. The grid is then completed with new cards to maintain the challenge throughout the game.
  • As soon as a player has the right ingredients, they can make one or more potions corresponding to the visible tiles. Certain special cards offer even more possibilities: the Stardustreplaces any ingredient, while the Face-Offcard allows a bat to be flipped at the most opportune moment.

Win/Loss Condition

  • The first player to deliver three potionsimmediately wins the game.
  • In a two-player game, you will need to prepare fourbefore claiming victory.
  • Memorize the sleeping bats

The cards you can't pick up immediately may be the most interesting ones next round.

  • Do not collect all the ingredients

Focus on currently available potions to score points quickly.

  • Use your special cards at the right time

Stardust and U-Turn can save an entire turn when used correctly.
