In Potion ou Poison, players embody goblins forced to test the potions of a completely unpredictable witch. Some potions are harmless, others deadly, but no one knows which. This game of atmosphere and bluffing relies on risk-taking, collective decisions, and a strong dose of uncertainty. Each turn can completely reverse the situation, with eliminations, revelations, and game-changing twists.

How to play Potion or Poison?
Game Setup
Each player receives potion cards face down. A set of Action cards is shuffled and placed in the center of the table. Antidote tokens are prepared within reach of all players.
Gameplay outline
- In each round, an Action card is revealed. It indicates which player must drink or which situation applies to all players.
- The designated player then chooses one of their potions and reveals it. Depending on the nature of the potion, they may stay alive or become a ghost. When a player becomes a ghost, they still continue to participate in the game with different actions, which maintains strong interaction even after elimination.
- Players can also indirectly influence the course of the rounds via Action cards that impose collective choices, votes, or chaos effects. The atmosphere gradually becomes more tense as players discover the hidden risks behind their potions.
Win/Loss Condition
The game continues until only one goblin remains alive, or until certain end-game conditions are triggered according to the cards used. The last player still alive is declared the winner.
Our Tips for Winning
-
Observe other players' behaviors
In Potion or Poison, bluffing is ever-present. Some players hesitate or react strongly when choosing a potion, which can give clues about their situation.
-
Strategically managing your remaining potions
Knowing approximately which potions have already been used allows for a better estimation of the remaining risks and helps avoid overly dangerous choices at the end of the game.
-
Staying active even after elimination
Becoming a ghost doesn't mean the game is over. Continuing to influence other players' choices can completely upset the game's balance.
