Qawale Mini is an abstract strategy game for two players that captivates with the elegance of its rules and the depth of its gameplay. Inspired by the stone cairns found along paths, it invites you to manipulate piles of pebbles to create a winning alignment. Each move consists of adding a pebble to a pile and then distributing the entire pile across the board, opening up new tactical possibilities with each turn. How to play Qawale Mini?
Game Setup
- The board is placed in the center of the table with the four stacks of neutral pebbles placed in the corners.
- Each player receives their 8 pebblesof their color. The first player is chosen randomly before the start of the game.
Gameplay outline
- In turn, a player chooses a stack on the board and places one of their pebbles on top.
- They then take the entire stack and distribute the pebbles one by one onto adjacent squares, in a horizontal or vertical line. The pebble at the bottom of the stack is placed first, followed by the others in order until the last one.
- This movement mechanic is at the heart of the game. Each action profoundly modifies the board configuration and can either create a winning opportunity or set up an opponent's counterattack.
- Throughout the game, players progressively try to build alignments while preventing their opponent from doing the same. The successive movements of the pebbles require excellent anticipation skills and continuous board analysis.
Win/Loss Condition
- The first player to align four visible tokens of their color, horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, immediately wins the game.
- If all tokens have been played without any alignment being made, the game ends in a draw.
